On Tuesday, November 18, the 4th "Trans-Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering 2025" was co-hosted by The University of Electro-Communications (UEC) and Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), and held in a hybrid format at the VUW campus. The symposium featured lectures by Professor Yasuhiro Minami from the Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering (Department of Informatics and Network Engineering) of UEC, and Associate Professor Patrice Delmas from the University of Auckland. Young researchers and graduate students, including Research Fellow Mitchell Rogers from VUW, also participated, presenting a wide range of research in the fields of science and engineering.
In the morning of the same day, Member of the Board of Directors Oya paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary OSAWA Makoto at the Embassy of Japan in New Zealand. On November 21, he paid a courtesy visit to Consul General MATSUI Shinji at the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland. Member of the Board of Directors Oya expressed gratitude for the ongoing support provided to our university and its affiliates, and explained the university's vision for collaboration with New Zealand educational institutions and industry, receiving understanding and support.
Member of the Board of Directors Oya and his delegation visited the University of Auckland, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, and Earth Science Ltd. in New Zealand, as well as the University of Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. These ware to conduct a preliminary survey for the "Hub for Future Co-creation Leader Development through a Japanese-style Industrial PhD" (provisional translation) project, which was adopted by our university this fiscal year under the " Future-Leading and Advanced Graduate-schools (FLAGs)." They met with representatives from the implementing institutions to investigate successful cases and issues by examining pioneering examples at each university.
Based on the holding of the symposium, the visits to the Japanese Embassy and Consulate-General, and the survey regarding the Industrial PhD, our university plans to further promote collaboration with educational institutions and industry in the Oceania region.
