2024.12.13

On 21st November 2024, Prof. Mariusz Glabowski, Vice Rector for International Relations, Poznan University of Technology (briefly PUT) visited UEC, for the first time of the past five years. He had a courtesy call to Prof. Kazuto Masamoto, Vice President of UEC for International Affairs and discussed the preferable collaborations between UEC and PUT.

PUT is located in the center of Poznan, a city known as the birthplace of the first Polish state and has been evolved as a leading university of science and technology. It is recognized as one of the top 6% world universities. The original body, State Higher School of Mechanical Engineering was established in1919 and has been extended to a university of 9 faculties with around 14,000 students so far. English is used as a common language in both undergraduate and graduate courses, PUT hosts about 800 international students and scholars every year. On the other hand, PUT has taken the initiative of organizing a multi-national university alliance EUNICE (European University for Customized Education) in collaboration with EU, thus, the future preferable international collaborations between UEC and EUNICE was discussed.

EUNICE extends the ERASMUS system to promote European students' study abroad opportunities within the EU region, transitioning to the new ERASMUS+system, which also covers students from outside Europe, such as Japanese students. Precedingly, some UEC students have joined their internship studies at PUT, where two of them successfully completed their programs. However, subsequent applicants were unable to proceed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new system will promote the future internship studies and further the chance of study abroad for students in Japan

After the courtesy call and discussion, a special lecture of PUT and EUNICE by Prof. Glabowski was held with the greetings and introduction of the speaker by Prof. Nattapong Kitsuwan. In the lecture, Prof. Glabowski introduced PUT and EUNICE, and referred to the mutual relations and advantages between the two organizations, historical background, available faculties, student- oriented education, ERASMUS based studies, the future perspectives of EUNICE, and had Q&A.

For the preferable research collaborations, Prof. Glabowski visited three Laboratories, Kitsuwan- Lab related to his specialty of traffic management of information networks, Kashihara-Lab related the advanced safe information network for multi-national education in EUNICE, and Taki-Lab related to the chemical and medical engineering science evolved in Poland, well-known through the great contribution by Marie Curie.
