On July 2, 2024 (Tue.), the "Trans-Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering 2024 in TOKYO" was held in a hybrid format at UEC Observatory.
This symposium, which started between The University of Electro-Communications(UEC) and the University of Auckland in Dec. 2023, has now expanded to include Victoria University and Unitec Institute of Technology, making it a four-university event with over 60 participants both on-site and online.
Following the opening remarks by President Shunichi Tano, presentations covered a wide range of topics, including "Multi-Point Simultaneous Prediction Model for Electron Flux at Geostationary Orbits" by Professor Yasuhide Hobara (Department of Computer and Network Engineering/Center for Space Science and Radio Engineering, UEC) and "Explainable AI for security decisions" by Associate Professor Ian Welch (Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University)The sessions were followed by lively Q&A sessions. Networking sessions were also arranged after the closing ceremony, providing opportunities for researchers to deepen their exchanges.
We are planning the third joint symposium, scheduled for November this year in New Zealand, with an expected further expansion of participating institutions.
