On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, Mr. Gareth Pidgeon, Minister／Consul General of the Embassy of New Zealand in Japan, Mr. Kentaro Yasuda, Head of Business Development, and Ms. Zea Rose, Head of Business Development, visited the University of Electro-Communications（UEC）and met with President Shunichi Tano, Dr. Kazuaki Oya, a Member of the board of Directors（International and Public Relations Strategy）, and other board members and professors of UEC. After self-introductions and greetings, they discussed UEC's activities and exchanged views on future cooperation between UEC and New Zealand.
UEC outlined its initiatives to promote research exchanges and student exchanges with New Zealand universities, including internships, and study abroad programs, while the Embassy of New Zealand expressed its interest in facilitating exchanges between UEC and New Zealand.
In December 2023, UEC held the "UoA／UEC Trans Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering 2023" in New Zealand in collaboration with the University of Auckland. President Tano and Dr. Oya also visited universities and companies in New Zealand to further strengthen ties and collaborations.
