Maria Q．Feng（マリア Q. フェン）氏

称号授与理由

マリア Q．フェン氏は、米国コロンビア大学Renwick教授で、Civil Engineering、Mechanical Engineering、Electrical ＆ Electronics Engineering のフィールドで、特に破壊検出、構造診断／最適化、災害対策等に関して顕著な業績を数多く挙げている世界的な研究者である。
同氏は本学大学院電気通信学研究科機械工学専攻博士前期課程の修了者であり、その総合センシング技術に基づく多彩な活躍は本学としても誇りとするところで、平成13（2001）年には本学同窓会賞が授与されている。
同氏を特別客員教授として迎えることができれば、学内で開催される講演会などを通じて職員、学生に様々な刺激を与え、本学の教育研究の活性化に大きく寄与するとともに、コロンビア大学との将来的な連携の可能性を追求する上でも有益であると期待される。
